Muskaan organized a running event on December 4th, 2016 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi to highlight the needs and rights of people with disability including intellectual disability. Objective was to generate awareness and bring the spotlight on the potentials of the differently able.
About Muskaan ( wording from website) – Muskaan is a place that believes in spreading smiles. We cater to those with intellectual disability and look after their special needs. To make sure that they become self sufficient at day-to-day activities is our primary aim. Working with them has taught us significant human values like, unconditional love, living in the present, faith, innocence, and freedom from egoism.
Run was organized to mark international Disability Day that has been promoted by the United Nations since 1992. As Muskaan looks at it as celebration of diversity and people with disabilities as part of human diversity. Objectives of Run were: –
Awareness and inclusion of people with disabilities
Advocating for the rights of persons with disability; visibility of their capacities
Value of fitness/healthy lifestyle for all
Supporting the Run we (Myself , Rohit Gupta and Rohan Mishra) from Khushiyan group participated in the Marathon. It was an amazing day from start to finish. The support throughout the run was incredible – at every point I began to feel myself lagging, there they were, a troupe of Muskaan supporters, shouting support, waving, and smiling.
It felt so good to be here on the day of my birthday for a cause other then just running itself. I felt like am helping somebody by doing what I love. What a sense of satisfaction I got after completing my run.
We also bought the bakery products made by their children. They are always tasty and delicious. We will try to bring these products to more people and organizations to support employment .
Special thanks to Muskan , Mr Ranvir Singh and Ms Madhavi Gupta for the well organized Run.
